Fifty-two on, seventeen off

The 52/17 rhythm comes from a 2014 analysis by the time-tracking company DeskTime. Its most productive users tended to work for about 52 minutes, then take a break of about 17 minutes. This timer runs that cycle for you.

What the 52/17 finding says, and what it does not

DeskTime looked at how its own users worked. It was not a controlled experiment, and the exact numbers matter less than the pattern: focused stretches of under an hour, followed by real breaks away from the work.

Treat 52/17 as a starting point. If you end sessions tired, shorten the work block. If the break feels too long, try the 50/10 timer instead.

A 52/17 day

Five cycles take about 5 hours and 45 minutes, including 4 hours and 20 minutes of focused work. That is a realistic amount of deep work for most people in a day.

The same timer on your phone and tablet

Pomodoro Timer for Android has the same look and the same one-tap timer, on phones, tablets and foldables.

Questions

Is the 17-minute break really necessary?

It is the point of the method. Breaks that take you away from the screen help you come back fresh for the next block.

Will my settings here change the main timer?

No. Each timer page keeps its own settings in your browser.
