Five minutes is enough to start

Five minutes is the length of a Pomodoro break, and also a good way to begin something you have been putting off. Tap the circle, and a soft bell tells you when the five minutes are up.

Ways to use five minutes

  • Start a task you are avoiding. Promise yourself only five minutes; often you will keep going.
  • Take a proper break: stand up, stretch, look out of a window, drink some water.
  • Tidy one small area, answer two emails, or review your notes before a meeting.
  • Give a class or a child a clear, visible countdown before the next activity.

The five-minute rule

Getting started is usually the hardest part of a task. Committing to a short, fixed stretch lowers the effort needed to begin, and once you have started, carrying on is easier. If five minutes go well, switch to the 25 minute timer for a full pomodoro.

The same timer on your phone and tablet

Pomodoro Timer for Android has the same look and the same one-tap timer, on phones, tablets and foldables.

Questions

Will it make a sound?

Yes. A soft bell rings three times when the five minutes end. Browsers only allow sound after you click the page once, and pressing start counts.

Can I get a notification too?

Yes. The first time you start the timer, your browser asks whether this site may show notifications. Allow it, and you will get one when the time is up.
